The green or environmental movement has more than taken off; it is an integral part of our culture. From our kids studying it in school to states and large corporations looking for ways to save energy and slow down global warming – green is in. The energy, economic and environmental crisis has pushed us into being first aware, then committed to supporting our environment.
Building on the green movement, the whole movement is developing recognition. Our economic and healthcare crisis is making us aware of what is not working. We want a simpler, healthier life. We want a life that is not only sustains our environment, but also integrates our own bodies and our communities.
Like the green movement, the whole movement saw its seeds back in the 60’s. The kids of the 60’s began to appreciate both the natural world and holistic living. This generation began questioning tradition. Today we are seeing the rebirth of these questions with new answers. In part because of the Internet, another creation of that generation, both environmental and lifestyle concerns are finding a collective consciousness and solutions.
The whole movement is “the what is next.” Developing countries are building new cities based on these two concepts. China knows that they will not survive using the old model. They are in collaboration with leading corporations, NGO’s and other governments to create new cities that are green and whole.
Here in Sandpoint, we get to connect all these and other amazing resources to create an integrated, livable, and fun “whole town.” WholeSandpoint.com plans to be the instigator and hub for this connection.
